Films, TV shows and their soundtracks to look forward to this week.
22 March 2019
This week, lock your doors and shut your windows because the incredible Get Out (2017) director Jordan Peele is back with his latest chilling film, Us. Scoring the family being terrorised by their doppelgängers is African-American composer Michael Abels who has little credits to his name but clearly impressed Peele with his score for Get Out.
Also out this Friday is Justin Baldoni's Five Feet Apart which follows to teens who meet in hospital with life-threatening illnesses and fall in love. Two composers have teamed up to soundtrack the teen romance: Brian Tyler and Breton Vivian. Tyler is probably best known for scoring such action films as Iron Man 3 (2013), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Fast & Furious (2009), while Vivian has less composer credits but has worked with Tyler on TV series Yellowstone (2018).
And finally, out in UK cinemas this Friday is Ralph Fiennes' third film as director, The White Crow. Starring Oleg Ivenko (as well as Fiennes, of course), this British film follows a young Rudolf Nureyev, the Russian ballet dancer, who takes a life-changing visit to Paris. Underscoring the biographical drama is British composer Ilan Eshkeri who is probably best known for his work on such films as Layer Cake (2004) and Stardust (2007) as well as the highly popular TV series Riviera (2017). The soundtrack is not currently available.

Coming to our small screens this week is the highly anticipated fourth series of Billions set to premiere on Sky Atlantic on Wednesday. The battle between the powers continues and so does the music of Eskmo, the Californian music producer and composer who has little soundtrack credits to his but you may know his work on Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.

The following night, head to BBC Two for the second series of Pose, a drama that follows New York's '80s ball culture. Scoring the struggle is American composer Mac Quayle who has also worked on such highly acclaimed TV series as Mr Robot (2015-), American Horror Story (2014-2018) and 9-1-1 (2018-). The soundtrack is not currently available.

And on Friday, after just over 2 years of waiting, the second series of The OA will finally be released on Netflix UK. The mysteriously miraculous adventures of Prairie will be underscored by different composers this season: Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans, who were featured in last week's Soundtrack Rundown for American Gods. This busy duo have worked on a number of high-profile films and series such as The Gift (2015), Ozark (2017-2018) and Boy Erased (2018). The soundtrack is not currently available.
