Weekly Soundtrack Rundown 17/02/19

Films, TV shows and their soundtracks to look forward to this week.

FILM

22 February 2019

Just two note-worthy films hitting UK cinemas this Friday. The first of which is Hans Petter Moland's Cold Pursuit (2019), starring Liam Neeson which sadly, due to recent controversies, places the film's success at risk. The story follows a snow plough driver seeking revenge on his son's killers and is underscored by British composer George Fenton. You probably know Fenton for his work on documentaries Frozen Planet (2011) and Life (2009), as well as family classic Ground Hog Day (1993).

The second film to look out for on Friday is Mimi Leder's On the Basis of Sex starring Felicity Jones as Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she struggles for equal rights. You'd hope in such a female-centred production they would have hired a female composer, but alas no. The film is scored, however, by Mychael Danna who is probably best know for his Oscar-winning score for Life of Pie (2012).

TV

22 February 2019

Things are a little quiet this week on the TV front too. On Friday, however, Sky One will premiere the brand new series Curfew starring Sean Bean. Curfew follows a group of amateur drivers who gather from all over the world to take part in an illegal street car race. The series music is composed by Amon Tobin (whose previous credits include a plethora of shorts) and Magnus Fiennes (who has scored TV series such as Death in Paradise (2011-2019) and Hustle (2012). The soundtrack is not currently available.
