Films, TV shows and their soundtracks to look forward to this week.
21 December 2018
Just one notable film release this week, but it's a big one! The highly anticipated sequel to the family classic is finally here. Emily Blunt will hopefully revive our childish wonder in Rob Marshall's Mary Poppins Returns (2018) on Friday. Everyone involved has big shoes to fill, but the pressure is particularly on for composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Judging by their award nominations so far, however, they're sure not to disappoint. The soundtrack is out now.
18 December 2018
Unsurprisingly, the majority of TV shows coming out this week are Christmas specials, but there are a couple of new ones to look out for. The first one The Long Song is Mahalia Belo's story of a 19th Century Jamaican slave which will premiere on BBC One on Tuesday. The music accompaniment is scored by Jonathan Hill who currently has few credits to his name so we'll be interested to see how it sounds. The soundtrack is not currently available.

Secondly, this Saturday, BBC One will also play host of Noam Murro's take of Martin Rosen's infamous Watership Down (2018), starring James McAvoy. The original animated film came out in 1978 and became famous for the violent images not suitable for children. Whether this version will be as violent as the first is currently up for debate, however, we're even more intrigued by what Spanish composer Federico Jusid's has come up with for the accompaniment. The soundtrack is not currently available.
