This Wednesday, Junkie XL returns in Robert Rodriguez's Alita: Battle Angel. Rosa Salazar stars as a young woman on a quest to save the world and find out who she is along the way. Junkie XL has scored a number of superhero/action films such as Deadpool (2016), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and, more recently, Tomb Raider (2018). The fact he's involved with this film gives us high hopes it will be a good one. The soundtrack is set for release on 15th February.

On Friday, Nicole Kidman and Lucas Hedges star in Joel Edgerton's Boy Erased. Danny Bensai and Saunder Jurriaans score the unsettling story of a gay son to a Baptist preacher who is forced to undergo gay conversion therapy. Bensai and Jurriaans have worked together on a number of high-profile projects including Netflix's Ozark (2017-2018), The Gift (2015) and Fear the Walking Dead (2018).

Friday also finally sees the release of Barry Jenkins' If Beale Street Could Talk which has been a hot topic in recent months as it received numerous award nominations. Nicholas Britell scored the story of a pregnant woman's struggle to prove her fiancé's innocence and has received BAFTA and Oscar nominations. You may know Britell for his Oscar-winning score for Moonlight (2016) as well as The Big Short (2015) and the recently released Vice (2018).

Children and adults alike will be excited to hear Emmet is back this Friday in Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks must save the Lego world once again, and composer Mark Mothersbaugh has also returned to score the second instalment. You may know Mothersbaugh for his scores for TV series such as Disenchantment (2018) and House of Lies (2012-2015) as well as The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017). The soundtrack is not currently available.

And finally, Kenneth Branagh directs and stars as William Shakespeare in All Is True. Also starring Dame Judy Dench, the final days of the playwright's life are underscored by composer Patrick Doyle who is probably best known for his work on Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), Brave (2012) and Murder on the Orient Express (2017). The soundtrack is not currently available.

Tomorrow, BBC's Cuckoo returns for a fifth quirky series. Oli Julian and Nick Foster have also made a return to underscore the series. Julian has underscored a number of TV series including Sex Education (2019), Living The Dream (2017-2019) and Catastrophe (2015-2019), while you may know Foster for Thunderbirds Are Go (2015-2018), The A List (2018) and TV movie Derren Brown: Sacrifice (2018). The soundtrack is not currently available.

6 February 2019

Wednesday will see the series premiere of ITV's Manhunt starring Martin Clunes as DCI Colin Sutton who sets out to track down a serial killer. The series is scored by Irish composer Niall Byrne whose previous credits include Hatton Garden (2018), Little Boy Blue (2017) and Cilla (2014). The soundtrack is not currently available.

7 February 2019

On Thursday, BBC One will see the premiere of the seventh series of Father Brown, starring Mark Williams. British composer Debbie Wiseman has been scoring the series since the very beginning and series seven is no exception. She has worked on a number of TV series including The State (2017), The Coroner (2015-2016) and Dickensian (2015-2016). The soundtrack is not currently available.

And finally, on Amazon Prime, the fourth series of the highly acclaimed The Expanse will be released. Canadian composer Clinton Shorter continues to soundtrack the series who you may know for his work on House of Lies (2015-2016), Pompeii (2014) and District 9 (2009).
