It's the moment we've all been waiting for... The nominations for this year's Academy Awards have been announced, and we're particularly interested in who's up for Best Original Score.
And the nominees for Best Original Score are…
Terence Blanchard for BlacKkKlansman (2018), Spike Lee's latest picture following an African American police officer who manages to infiltrate the local Ku Klux Klan branch. As well as being a film composer, Blanchard is a prolific jazz musician. This is his first Oscar nomination.
Ludwig Göransson for Black Panther (2018), the latest groundbreaking Marvel classic. Göransson has already received numerous award nominations for this score including a Golden Globe and a Grammy. This is Göransson's first Oscar nomination.
Nicholas Britell for If Beale Street Could Talk (2018), Barry Jenkins' story of a pregnant woman in Harlem who fights to prove her fiancé's innocence. American composer Britell received an Oscar nomination in 2017 for his score for Moonlight (2016), but perhaps 2019 will be his year.
Alexandre Desplat for Isle Of Dogs (2018), Wes Anderson's latest masterpiece following a boy's search for his lost dog. Desplat's impressive catalogue includes The King's Speech (2010), Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) and The Shape of Water (2017) for which he won a BAFTA, Golden Globe and an Oscar last year. Desplat has been nominated for an Oscar an incredible 10 times and has won twice.
Marc Shaiman for Mary Poppins Returns (2018), Rob Marshall's sequel to the much-loved classic. Shaiman had some big shoes to fill but it seems he has done well to live up to the original. Shaiman had received five Oscar nominations prior to this one, and has also been nominated this year for Best Original Song with lyricist Scott Wittman.
